Tesla to Develop Four New Batteries by 2026, Including for Robotaxi and Cybertruck by Mid-2025
Oct 3, 2024, 01:06 PM
Tesla plans to develop four new versions of its in-house batteries by 2026, including one specifically for its forthcoming Robotaxi. This ambitious effort aims to power the Cybertruck and other electric vehicles, enhancing Tesla's flexibility in vehicle design. The new batteries are expected to offer more range and faster charging capabilities. Tesla is also pushing ahead with plans to introduce these batteries in the Cybertruck by mid-2025. However, the company has encountered challenges with a new manufacturing process, currently achieving a low 30% yield. A special 4680 battery, which will move dry cathodes to large production, is part of this development.
