Tata Group has commenced the construction of a ₹27,000 crore semiconductor facility in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, Assam. The groundbreaking ceremony, known as Bhumi Poojan, was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, and other dignitaries. The facility is expected to be operational by mid-2025 and will generate over 30,000 employment opportunities, including 15,000 direct and 12,000 indirect jobs. The plant will focus on the assembly and testing of semiconductor chips for applications in automotive, mobile devices, and artificial intelligence. This significant investment marks the largest ever in Northeast India and aims to position Assam as a global electronics hub. Tata Group is proud to spearhead the advanced electronics ecosystem in India under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the importance of this project for the region.
