VisitT-Mobile and SpaceX Successfully Test First Wireless Emergency Alert via Starlink on September 5th
Sep 11, 2024, 05:15 PM
T-Mobile announced that it has successfully completed the first-ever wireless emergency alert via SpaceX's direct-to-cell Starlink satellites. The test alert was initiated at 5:13 PM PT on Thursday, September 5th, and was sent 217 miles into space. This new system ensures that emergency alerts will work for all users, including those on Verizon, AT&T, and other wireless providers. The alerts can be used during events such as forest fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, and Amber alerts. The collaboration between T-Mobile and SpaceX aims to provide coverage even in remote areas, ensuring that no one is left without critical information during emergencies, even off the grid.
