Maysaa Sabrine has been appointed by Syria's new administration led by Ahmed Al-Sharaa as the governor of the Central Bank, becoming the first woman to hold this position, according to senior Syrian officials and media reports. Sabrine, who holds a doctorate in economics and accounting, previously served as the first deputy governor of the Central Bank and has represented the bank on the Board of Directors of the Damascus Securities Exchange since December 2018.
