VisitSyria to Receive Power Ships from Turkey and Qatar, Boosting Electricity by 50% with U.S. Waiver
Jan 7, 2025, 09:45 AM
Syria is set to receive two electricity-generating ships from Turkey and Qatar, which will provide an additional 800 megawatts of power to the country. This initiative, announced by Engineer Khaled Abu Dey, Director General of the General Organisation for Electricity Transmission and Distribution, comes in the wake of significant damage to Syria's electrical infrastructure under the Assad government. The ships are expected to increase the country's electricity production by approximately 50%, according to Syrian state media SANA. The move follows a six-month sanctions waiver granted by the U.S., allowing cooperation with Syria's power sector.
