Syria's New Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani Warns Iran Against Spreading Chaos, Citing Axis of Resistance

Syria's newly appointed Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, has issued a stern warning to Iran, urging it to refrain from spreading chaos in the country. In a post on the social media platform X, al-Shibani emphasized that Iran must respect the will of the Syrian people, as well as the country's sovereignty and security. He held Iran accountable for the repercussions of its recent statements, though he did not specify which remarks he was referring to. This warning follows comments by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who encouraged Syrian youth to resist those responsible for the country's insecurity. Al-Shibani's appointment comes after the ousting of Bashar al-Assad's regime by Syrian rebels led by Ahmed al-Sharaa's HTS on December 8, marking a significant shift in Syria's political landscape. Iran had previously supported Assad's regime during the 13-year civil war, spending billions and deploying its Revolutionary Guards to maintain his power. The fall of Assad is seen as a major setback for Iran's 'Axis of Resistance' alliance in the region.
