Rep. Jim Banks Calls for House GOP Support in Steve Bannon's Legal Defense After BLAG Vote on January 6 Committee
Jun 26, 2024, 12:18 PM
Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) has called on the House GOP to support Steve Bannon's legal defense. Banks is urging Speaker Mike Johnson to back Bannon's emergency appeal to the Supreme Court with a legal brief. The Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group (BLAG) voted 3-2 to declare the January 6 Committee illegitimate, asserting that all subpoenas issued by the committee were also illegitimate. House GOP leaders, including Speaker Johnson, have approved filing an amicus brief to support Bannon's appeal. This move, supported by Rep. Barry Loudermilk, Chairman of the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, aims to invalidate the evidence against Bannon and aid his fight against a contempt conviction for defying the January 6 panel. The House General Counsel will file the brief. The Supreme Court's consideration of the case is expected soon.
