Steve Bannon Released After Four-Month Sentence, Says Prison 'Empowered' Him
Oct 29, 2024, 01:11 PM
Steve Bannon, former advisor to President Donald Trump, was released from federal prison on Tuesday after serving a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress. Bannon had been convicted for defying a subpoena from the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. His release from FCI Danbury in Connecticut comes exactly one week before Election Day. While incarcerated, Bannon taught history and American government classes to fellow inmates. Upon his release, he was met by his daughter Maureen and is expected to resume hosting his 'War Room' podcast immediately, with his return scheduled for 10 a.m. He held a press conference in New York City at 3 p.m. During the press conference, Bannon declared that his time in prison had not broken him but had 'empowered' him, stating, 'I am more energized and more focused than I've ever been in my entire life' and 'I am far from broken.' He referred to himself as a 'political prisoner' of the 'Merrick Garland, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi regime' and vowed to continue fighting against what he describes as a 'rigged' system.
