South Korea to Expedite EV Battery Certification and Mandate Brand Disclosure Amid Safety Concerns
Aug 25, 2024, 08:07 AM
South Korea is intensifying scrutiny on electric vehicles (EVs) after a series of battery fires raised public safety concerns. In response, the government and the ruling party have agreed to expedite the implementation of an EV battery certification program and are considering mandating the disclosure of battery brand information. This move aims to enhance safety and restore public confidence in EV technology. Major automakers such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW have disclosed their EV battery suppliers for the first time, joining Hyundai and Kia in revealing this information amid the ongoing safety investigation. LG Energy Solution is also contributing by launching advanced battery diagnostic software for global automakers to address these safety issues.
