South Korea Resumes Propaganda Broadcasts After North Korean Trash Balloons Land on Presidential Compound, U.S. Base
Jul 24, 2024, 12:46 AM
South Korea has resumed full-scale propaganda broadcasts across the border in response to North Korea's repeated launches of trash-carrying balloons. The latest incident saw a North Korean balloon carrying trash land on the compound of South Korea's presidential office in Seoul. This marks the tenth such launch since May, with the balloons often containing wastepaper, scraps of cloth, cigarette butts, and even manure. Approximately 300 balloons were sent in the most recent barrage. Some of the trash also landed on a U.S. military base. The South Korean military has intensified its anti-Pyongyang broadcasts, including K-pop songs and propaganda news, aimed at agitating North Korean soldiers and residents. The ongoing tit-for-tat actions have escalated tensions between the two countries, raising concerns about the security of key South Korean facilities.
