India Women Edge South Africa by Four Runs in Thriller, Secure Series Win
Jun 19, 2024, 11:25 AM
In an exhilarating second ODI match in Bengaluru, India Women defeated South Africa Women by four runs, securing a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur both scored centuries, powering India to a total of 325/3. Mandhana's century was her second consecutive in the series, equalling Mithali Raj's all-time Indian record. Kaur's century was her first in internationals since September 2022. South Africa's chase was led by centuries from Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp, but they fell just short, finishing at 321/7. Wolvaardt also became the first South African woman to score 4000 ODI runs, while Kapp's century came off just 85 balls. This match marked the first time ever that four women scored centuries in the same ODI. Pooja Vastrakar held her nerve in the final over to secure India's victory.
