VisitSK Hynix Begins Mass Production of 12-Layer HBM3E AI Memory Chips, Stock Surges 8.3%
Sep 26, 2024, 01:52 AM
SK Hynix, a supplier for Nvidia, has commenced mass production of the world's first 12-layer HBM3E memory chips, marking a significant advancement in AI memory technology. These chips, featuring 36GB capacity and operating at 9.6Gbps, maintain the same thickness as the 8-layer version due to thinner DRAM layers. The announcement has led to an 8.3% surge in SK Hynix's stock price in early trading in Seoul. With expected sales of $12.8 billion in Q3, SK Hynix is set to become the world's third-largest chipmaker, surpassing Intel. The production of these advanced AI chips, along with strong results from Micron, has also spurred a rally in Asian semiconductor stocks.
