A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Aomori Prefecture in northern Japan on November 20, 2024, at 3:40 PM local time. The quake, which had its epicenter in Mutsu Bay, was recorded at a maximum intensity of 4 on the Japanese seismic scale. Fortunately, no tsunami warnings were issued following the event. Additional reports indicated that a separate earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred in the Japan Sea, 34 kilometers northeast of Aomori. There were also reports of a smaller earthquake with a maximum intensity of 3 in Miyagi Prefecture later in the day. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
