Aug 6, 2024, 08:40 PM
Shujun Wang, a Chinese-born academic and naturalized U.S. citizen, has been convicted of acting as a covert agent for China. Wang, a Queens resident, posed as a pro-democracy activist, collected information on New York-based activists supporting democracy in China, and shared his findings with Beijing. He was arrested in March 2022 and now faces up to 25 years in prison. The U.S. Justice Department announced the conviction, highlighting Wang's betrayal of the dissident community. Sentencing is set for January 9. Several co-conspirators, Feng He, Jie Ji, Ming Li, and Keqing Lu, remain at large. The case has echoes of Fox Hunt and was prosecuted in the Eastern District of New York (EDNY).
