Kosovo Wins Council of Europe Vote: 131 For, 29 Against
Apr 17, 2024, 12:47 PM
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has voted in favor of Kosovo joining the Council of Europe, with 131 votes for, 29 against, and 11 abstentions. This decision follows endorsements from several countries, including Albania, Slovenia, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, despite the latter not recognizing Kosovo's independence. The final decision now rests with the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Kosovo's Prime Minister, Kurti, noted an increase in citizens returning to Kosovo, reflecting positive national sentiment. Meanwhile, Serbia's President Vucic has threatened to withdraw from the Council if Kosovo is accepted. Slovenia's President Natasa Pirc Musar expressed hope to see Kosovo join all international organizations, and Bosnia's delegate Sasa Magazinovic supported Kosovo's membership.
