Google and Samsung to Launch Android XR with Project Moohan Headset and Gemini AI in 2025

Alphabet's Google and Samsung have jointly announced the introduction of Android XR, a new operating system designed for mixed reality devices. The companies revealed plans to launch the operating system in 2025, starting with Samsung's Project Moohan, a mixed reality headset developed in collaboration with Google and powered by Qualcomm technology. Google is also developing smart glasses, codenamed Project Astra, powered by Android XR and integrating the company's Gemini AI technology, though no release date has been specified. The devices are part of an effort to challenge existing offerings from Apple and Meta in the mixed reality market, aiming to undercut Apple's $3,499 Vision Pro with lighter design and broader functionality. Other partners, including Sony, Lynx, and Xreal, are also developing devices based on Android XR, signaling a broad industry push towards this new platform.
