Germany to Continue Military Support to Israel; Putin Warns Against US Tomahawk and Hypersonic Missiles
Jul 28, 2024, 08:43 AM
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has confirmed that Germany will continue its military support to Israel, despite a recent report from the United Nations' highest court criticizing Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories. Scholz emphasized that Germany makes case-by-case decisions regarding weapon supplies to Israel and rejects calls to boycott Israeli products. Additionally, Scholz stated that Germany will not allow the use of its weapons for strikes deep into Russian territory to avoid escalating the Russia-Ukraine conflict into a broader war involving NATO. Scholz also addressed the potential deployment of U.S. long-range missiles, including Tomahawk and hypersonic missiles, in Germany, indicating that such a move would only be reconsidered if Russia ends its war in Ukraine. In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that if the U.S. deploys long-range missiles in Germany, Russia would station similar missiles within striking distance of the West and consider itself free from the moratorium on deploying intermediate and shorter-range missiles. Putin made these statements during the Navy Day celebrations in St. Petersburg.
