Giuliani Held in Contempt; Faces Asset Seizure in $148 Million Defamation Case by Georgia Election Workers
Jan 6, 2025, 08:29 PM
Rudy Giuliani, former New York City Mayor and ex-lawyer to Donald Trump, has been found in contempt of court by a federal judge in New York for failing to turn over assets to two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea "Shaye" Moss, who were awarded a $148 million defamation judgment against him. The judgment stems from false claims Giuliani made about the workers during the 2020 presidential election. After facing a grilling at a contempt-of-court hearing last week, Giuliani testified via video call, claiming he is "broke" and unable to locate valuable items, including a signed Joe DiMaggio Yankees jersey, sought to satisfy the judgment. Judge Liman sanctioned Giuliani by issuing an adverse inference that evidence he failed to disclose would have hurt his defense, moving the election workers closer to obtaining his $3.5 million Palm Beach condo and possible seizure of other assets.
