VisitUAE-Backed RSF Captures Towns, 97 Killed or Injured in Al-Fashir Attacks
Jul 28, 2024, 12:18 AM
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a UAE-backed paramilitary group in Sudan, have continued their offensive in the Sudanese civil war, capturing the towns of Al Suki and Rungu in southern Sudan. At least 22 people were killed when the RSF attacked the city of al-Fashir, according to a pro-democracy activist group, marking the worst toll after weeks of stalemate on that front. The Al-Fashir Resistance Committees reported that the RSF fired artillery shells on markets, hospitals, and apartments in the city. The RSF also used a drone to bomb the Nabd Al-Hayat Specialized hospital in El-Fashir, marking the second attack on the hospital in three days. The activist group claimed a total of 97 people were killed or injured in the assault. Despite these reports, the RSF dismissed claims of clashes with the army or allied groups in Al-Fashir. Pro-Darfur media sources confirmed that the RSF had advanced into the northern outskirts of Al-Fashir, with heavy clashes and significant casualties on both sides.
