Braves' Ronald Acuña Jr. Out for Season with Torn Left ACL
May 27, 2024, 01:17 AM
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. suffered a complete tear of the ACL in his left knee during Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The non-contact injury occurred when Acuña's knee buckled while he was attempting to advance to third base. Despite initially walking off the field with assistance, he was later diagnosed with a torn ACL following an MRI. This injury is unrelated to his previous ACL tear in his right knee from 2021. Acuña, the reigning National League MVP, will undergo surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 season. The Braves had initially described the injury as left knee soreness and placed Acuña on the 10-day IL. The team will need to adjust their lineup in his absence as they continue their campaign.
