Lara Trump, President-Elect's Daughter-in-Law, Withdraws from Consideration for Rubio's Florida Senate Seat
Dec 21, 2024, 11:37 PM
Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump and former Republican National Committee co-chair, announced on social media platform X that she is withdrawing her name from consideration to replace outgoing U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. Rubio is expected to vacate his Senate seat to serve as Secretary of State in the incoming administration. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is responsible for appointing Rubio's replacement. Lara Trump expressed gratitude for the support received and stated, "I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate. I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best." Reports suggest that DeSantis was unlikely to appoint her, with Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody now appearing as a leading contender for the seat. Donald Trump had recently indicated he did not expect DeSantis to appoint Lara Trump. She hinted at a "big announcement" coming in January.
