Priti Patel Eliminated in First Round of Conservative Leadership Contest

Former UK Home Secretary Priti Patel has been eliminated from the Conservative Party leadership contest after the first round of voting. Patel received 14 votes, the lowest among the candidates. Robert Jenrick topped the poll with 28 votes, followed by Kemi Badenoch with 22 votes, James Cleverly with 21 votes, Tom Tugendhat with 17 votes, and Mel Stride with 16 votes. The second round of voting will take place next week to narrow the candidates further. The race is to succeed Rishi Sunak as the leader of the Conservative Party.
