Ukraine Releases Over 2,750 Prisoners Under New Conscription Law to Join Military
Jun 16, 2024, 09:27 PM
More than 2,750 Ukrainian prisoners have been released from detention to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to a report by the Washington Post. This move comes as part of a new conscription law adopted by the parliament aimed at bolstering Ukraine's military ranks amid ongoing conflict. The released convicts are required to join assault brigades, which are involved in some of the most deadly fighting. Not all convicts qualify for release. Many of these individuals are currently being trained at military bases. At least 4,000 men are expected to volunteer in the first round of recruitment.
