In an interview with ESPN's Pete Thamel before the College Football Playoff semifinal against Ohio State, Ewers stated that he does not expect to play college football next year and anticipates playing in the NFL next season. Ewers, who transferred from Ohio State to Texas, has led the Longhorns to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinals, throwing for 3,189 yards and 29 touchdowns in the 2024 season. In the semifinal game against Ohio State, Ewers completed 23 of 39 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw a game-sealing interception. His decision comes after a season where Texas finished with a 13-3 record, made an appearance in the SEC Championship game, and won the Big 12 Championship in 2023 during their SEC debut.
