Heaviest Antimatter Particle, Antihyperhydrogen-4, Discovered by Qiu Hao's Team
Aug 22, 2024, 01:53 AM
Scientists have discovered the heaviest antimatter particle ever, known as antihyperhydrogen-4, at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. This antimatter version of an atomic nucleus, composed of an antiproton, two antineutrons, and an antihyperon, could provide insights into why the universe is predominantly composed of matter rather than antimatter. The discovery was made by an international team of scientists led by Chinese researcher Qiu Hao, and the findings were published in Nature. Measurements of 16 antihyperhydrogen nuclei may help resolve mysteries surrounding exotic matter in the universe, according to Ulrik Egede from Monash University.
