Ukraine and Russia Hold Confidential Talks on Concessions, Open to Qatar Mediating Energy Security
Nov 4, 2024, 01:14 PM
Ukraine and Russia are holding confidential talks to discuss possible concessions, including mutual deterrence from attacks on energy infrastructure, prisoner exchanges, and the return of Ukrainian children, according to Die Zeit. Ukraine has stated it would not oppose Qatar or any other country mediating an agreement on energy security through separate discussions with Kyiv and Moscow, as reported by Reuters. Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian President's Office, confirmed that Ukraine is open to a third country mediating the implementation of peace formula talks. Meanwhile, journalists from RFE/RL have obtained an early document outlining Russia's demands for Ukraine following the full-scale invasion, which included conditions for a ceasefire and peace agreement. The document, revealed by Meduza, was presented during the third round of talks in Belarus on March 7, 2022, and included demands such as the restoration of water supply to Crimea.
