Qatar Airways Partners with Elon Musk's Starlink to Launch First 777 Flight with Free High-Speed Wi-Fi
Oct 22, 2024, 12:59 PM
Qatar Airways has launched the world's first Boeing 777 flight equipped with SpaceX's Starlink high-speed internet service, marking a significant milestone in in-flight connectivity. The inaugural flight from Doha to London allowed passengers to experience free, ultra-high-speed, low-latency internet access, enabling them to stream, game, or work seamlessly at 35,000 feet. Notably, the airline issued the world's first press release at cruising altitude, highlighting its commitment to innovation. During the flight, Qatar Airways' Senior Vice President of Product Development and Design, Xia Cai, engaged in video calls using Starlink's connectivity, including a call with Nicholas Galano, Director of Starlink Commercial Aviation Sales. Elon Musk also joined a video call, stating, “Over time, you’ll find it just gets better and better. This is the minimum, and it only gets better from here.” The airline is the first in the Middle East and North Africa to partner with Starlink and plans to equip its Airbus A350 fleet by summer 2025. This partnership sets new standards in the airline industry, aiming to enhance passenger experience with fast, reliable, and free in-flight internet service.
