Purcell and Thompson Win US Open Men's Doubles Title, First All-Australian Team in 28 Years
Sep 7, 2024, 04:50 PM
Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson have made history by becoming the first all-Australian team to win the US Open men's doubles title in 28 years. The duo defeated the German pair Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz with a score of 6-4, 7-6(4) in the final at Arthur Ashe Stadium. This victory marks their first Grand Slam title as a team, with Purcell securing his second career major and Thompson his first. The win comes as a redemption after their narrow loss in the Wimbledon final, where they missed three championship points. Earlier in the tournament, they knocked out the No.1 seeds Granollers and Zeballos in the semifinals.
