Apple's Proxima Chip to Power iPhone 17, Apple TV, and HomePod mini in 2025
Dec 12, 2024, 06:13 PM
Apple Inc. is set to transition to its own in-house designed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip, codenamed Proxima, starting in 2025, reducing its reliance on Broadcom Inc. for these components. This strategic move will begin with the integration of Proxima into the iPhone 17, Apple TV, and HomePod mini, with plans to extend to iPads and Macs in 2026. The development of Proxima is part of Apple's broader initiative to control its hardware ecosystem, aiming for better integration, energy efficiency, and the potential for thinner devices and new wearable technology. Apple's partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) will continue for the production of Proxima, while Apple also collaborates with Broadcom on other projects, including the development of an AI chip named Baltra, expected for mass production by 2026.
