Ukraine Secures Release of 49 Citizens from Russian Captivity on September 13

Ukraine successfully secured the release of 49 Ukrainians from Russian captivity on September 13, 2024. The released individuals include soldiers from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the National Police, the State Border Guard Service, and civilians. Among those freed is Leniye Umerova, a young Crimean Tatar who was detained by Russian authorities while visiting her sick father in Crimea. Additionally, 15 soldiers from the Azov Brigade and 23 women were among the released. Some of the freed individuals were Azovstal defenders. This marks the 56th prisoner swap between Ukraine and Russia, with President Volodymyr Zelensky expressing gratitude to all involved in the efforts to bring these individuals back home.
