Brazilian President Lula, 79, Undergoes Second Procedure for Brain Hemorrhage
Dec 11, 2024, 03:38 PM
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, aged 79, underwent emergency surgery for an intracranial hemorrhage at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in São Paulo. The operation was performed to drain a hematoma resulting from a fall at the Alvorada Palace in October. According to medical bulletins, Lula is recovering well, remaining in intensive care but showing positive evolution. He is described as lucid, oriented, and conversing normally, with no neurological damage. The president has been able to sit up in bed, receive visits from family members, and engage in physical therapy. However, he will undergo another procedure on Thursday to block blood flow in a brain region to prevent further hemorrhages. Despite his hospitalization, Lula continues to lead the country, with Vice President Geraldo Alckmin taking on some of his duties.
