Venezuelan Forces Lay Siege to Argentine Embassy in Caracas as Brazil Defies Maduro
Sep 7, 2024, 09:01 AM
Venezuelan security forces have laid siege to the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, which has been under the protection of Brazil. The siege began on September 6, 2024, at 8:30PM, with power being cut off and the embassy surrounded by armed and masked officials from SEBIN and DAET. Six members of Maria Corina Machado’s team, including her campaign manager Magalli Meda, have been sheltered in the embassy since March. Meda noted they have been isolated for 170 days. The situation escalated after the Nicolás Maduro regime revoked Brazil's protection over the embassy. Argentina has called for the International Criminal Court to order the arrest of Maduro. The diplomatic standoff continues, with Brazil refusing to stop protecting the embassy despite Maduro's actions. As of 6:30 am, the embassy remains without power.
