Denmark Frees Sea Shepherd Founder Paul Watson After 149 Days, Refuses Japan Extradition
Dec 17, 2024, 10:50 AM
Paul Watson, the militant ecologist and founder of Sea Shepherd, has been released from prison after Denmark refused Japan's request for his extradition. Watson had been detained in Greenland for 149 days since his arrest on July 21 over charges related to his anti-whaling activities dating back more than a decade. His lawyer announced on December 17 that the Danish government opted not to extradite him to Japan. Sea Shepherd, the organization he founded, also announced his release. Watson is expected to return to France, where he resides with his wife and two young children, and will be home for Christmas.
