Kosovo Accuses Serbia of Terrorist Attack as Explosion Threatens Power Supply
Nov 30, 2024, 06:08 AM
An explosion damaged a canal supplying water to Kosovo's main power plants, prompting Prime Minister Albin Kurti to accuse Serbia of orchestrating a 'criminal and terrorist attack' on critical infrastructure. The blast occurred in Zubin Potok in northern Kosovo near the Serbian border, affecting the Ibër-Lepenc canal that feeds two coal-fired power plants responsible for nearly all of the country's electricity. Kurti held an emergency press conference, noting it was the third explosion in three days, and warned that parts of Kosovo could face early power outages if repairs are not made promptly. He stated that the government would hold those responsible accountable. Serbia condemned the attack and denied involvement.
