Warren Buffett's PacifiCorp to Pay $178 Million to Settle 2020 Labor Day Oregon Wildfire Claims
Jun 3, 2024, 10:15 PM
PacifiCorp, a utility owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, has agreed to pay $178 million to resolve claims by 403 plaintiffs arising from the 2020 Oregon wildfires. This settlement, announced on Monday, addresses damages from the deadly Labor Day wildfires, including the Echo Mountain Fire outside Lincoln City. While this settlement reduces PacifiCorp's exposure, the company still faces thousands of other claims and additional lawsuits, including one filed by Oregon wineries and vineyards seeking over $100 million in damages. Many of the plaintiffs were survivors who opted out of the class action James case. Pacific Power, part of PacifiCorp, confirmed the settlement.
