Turkey Announces New Measures for Syrian Refugee Returns from January 1 to July 1, 2025, Allowing Household Items and Vehicles
Dec 24, 2024, 08:12 AM
Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced new measures to facilitate the return of Syrian refugees to their home country. Under the new guidelines, which are set to take effect from January 1 to July 1, 2025, each family will be allowed one member to make three border crossings during this period. Returning Syrians will be permitted to take all household items, business equipment, and vehicles with them. Additionally, the Trade Ministry will expedite customs procedures for returning individuals, including the use of a 'Simplified Exit Form' and a 'Cash Declaration Form' for valuables and cash. Minister Yerlikaya emphasized that those wishing to return can apply through the Directorate General of Migration Management's website, receiving an appointment on the same day. As of now, there are 4,164,472 foreigners legally residing in Turkey, with 2,920,119 under temporary protection status. The measures aim to address obstacles faced by returnees and ensure a safe and efficient process for their repatriation.
