Washington Post Ends Presidential Endorsements After 36 Years, Citing Return to Independence
Oct 25, 2024, 04:38 PM
The Washington Post has announced that it will not endorse a presidential candidate in the 2024 election, marking the first time in 36 years that the newspaper has refrained from making such an endorsement. Publisher Will Lewis stated that the newspaper is "returning to our roots of not endorsing presidential candidates" and aims to be independent in its coverage. He added, "Our job as the newspaper of the capital city of the most important country in the world is to be independent." The Washington Post will also discontinue presidential endorsements in future elections. Historically, the newspaper has endorsed Democratic candidates in previous elections, including Joe Biden in 2020 and Hillary Clinton in 2016.
