Oregon Leads First 12-Team CFP Rankings; BYU Secures No. 4 Seed, Alabama to Face Texas

The College Football Playoff (CFP) has released its first rankings for the 2024 season, inaugurating the new 12-team playoff format. Oregon is ranked No. 1, followed by Ohio State at No. 2, Georgia at No. 3, and Miami at No. 4. BYU, undefeated at 8-0 and ranked No. 9, secures the No. 4 seed as the Big 12 champion. Texas, ranked No. 5, would host No. 11 Alabama in the first round. SMU is the first team out at No. 13, with Texas A&M close behind at No. 14. Penn State is ranked No. 6 and would host No. 10 Notre Dame. Tennessee is No. 7 and would face No. 8 Indiana. Boise State is ranked No. 12 and would play No. 2 Ohio State.
