VisitTesla Showcases 20 Optimus Robots with Autonomous Navigation and Self-Charging at 'WE, ROBOT' Event
Oct 17, 2024, 06:33 AM
Tesla has unveiled significant advancements in its humanoid robot, Optimus, showcasing approximately 20 units at the recent 'WE, ROBOT' event. The robots demonstrated autonomous capabilities, including walking, balancing, dancing, and interacting with attendees for nearly four hours without recharging or experiencing falls, aside from one minor incident involving a handbag. Optimus can now autonomously navigate unseen environments using neural networks and 2D cameras for visual cues, a necessity due to the limitations of GPS indoors. The robots are able to climb stairs, carry payloads of up to 11 kilograms, hand out items upon request, and dock themselves at wireless charging stations. They can build shared maps of their surroundings and coordinate with other units. Additionally, Optimus features a 22-degree-of-freedom hand with expanded tactile sensing. These advancements have been achieved without teleoperation, marking significant progress toward full autonomy.
