Modi 3.0 Government to Implement 'One Nation, One Election' Policy, Approves Kovind Panel Report
Sep 18, 2024, 09:23 AM
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has announced plans to implement the 'One Nation, One Election' policy within its current tenure. This initiative aims to synchronize elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies to a single schedule. Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed the government's commitment to this policy, and the Union Cabinet has approved the proposal, including the recommendations of a high-level committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind. The Kovind panel report, which found widespread support for simultaneous polls, was placed before the Cabinet and received unanimous approval. Implementation will be done in two phases.
