City of London Defers Decision on 73-Storey Skyscraper in Financial District
Jul 2, 2024, 08:00 AM
The City of London has deferred a decision on the approval of a new 73-storey office tower, which is set to become the tallest building in the historic financial district. The proposed skyscraper, located at Number 1 Undershaft, has faced objections from Historic England and the Lloyd’s of London boss. Historic England argued that the development would seriously degrade the scale and character of the public realm around it, while Lloyd’s of London expressed concerns that it would rob the City of a crucial convening space. If approved, the 74-floor skyscraper would surpass The Shard in height and significantly alter the City of London's skyline.
