NYC and NYPD Deploy Drones to Combat Subway Surfing After Six Deaths
Oct 31, 2024, 09:45 PM
New York City is intensifying efforts to combat the dangerous trend of subway surfing, which has resulted in six deaths this year, including a 13-year-old girl on the 7 train earlier this week, and critically injured her friend. Mayor Eric Adams and the NYPD have announced the permanent deployment of drones to patrol elevated subways and respond to thousands of 911 calls related to subway surfing. The NYPD has already saved 106 lives in the past year using drone technology. The initiative also includes student-driven public service announcements and the deployment of field response teams to raise awareness about the dangers of subway surfing.
