Police Identify Subway Arson Victim as 61-Year-Old New Jersey Woman, Debrina Kawam
Dec 31, 2024, 05:32 PM
New York City police have identified the woman who was set on fire and killed on a subway train on December 22 as 61-year-old Debrina Kawam of Toms River, New Jersey. Kawam was sleeping on a stationary F train at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station in Brooklyn when she was attacked. The suspect, 33-year-old Sebastian Zapeta, a previously deported immigrant from Guatemala who was living in the city's shelter system, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. The severity of Kawam's burns made identification difficult, requiring the use of dental records.
