NYC to Pilot Evolv Gun Detection Scanners in Subway Stations Starting Thursday or Friday
Jul 26, 2024, 08:29 PM
New York City is set to introduce body scanning metal detectors in subway stations starting either Thursday or Friday, according to Mayor Eric Adams. The initiative will see the controversial Evolv gun detection technology rolled out in a pilot program at a handful of stations this week. The NYPD is moving forward with the activation of these scanners despite concerns from advocates who argue that the deployment is premature. Evolv, the company behind the scanners, is currently facing a lawsuit from shareholders who claim the company exaggerated the effectiveness of its devices in detecting weapons.
