Nvidia Acquires Israeli Startup Run:ai for $700M, Gains EU Approval and Plans Open-Source AI Software
Dec 30, 2024, 03:14 PM
Nvidia Corp., valued at $3.56 trillion, has completed its acquisition of Run:ai, an Israeli startup specializing in AI infrastructure management, for $700 million. The acquisition, which faced regulatory scrutiny from both the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice, was approved by the European Commission in December. Run:ai's software, which helps companies manage and optimize their GPU resources for AI workloads through GPU orchestration, will be made open-source, allowing its use across the broader AI ecosystem, including by Nvidia's competitors such as AMD and Intel. This move is seen as a strategic step by Nvidia to enhance its dominance in the AI market, where it currently holds an 80% share of the AI GPU market. Run:ai, founded in 2018, aims to drive the AI revolution and has been working with Nvidia since 2020, including on Nvidia DGX Cloud.
