Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Converts NRG Arena to 250-Bed Post-Hospital Recovery Site After Hurricane Beryl
Jul 10, 2024, 06:00 PM
In response to the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick announced that the NRG Arena in Houston will be converted into a post-hospital recovery site with 250 beds. This measure is intended to alleviate the strain on local hospitals, which are unable to discharge patients to homes without power. The field hospital will temporarily hold patients awaiting discharge, freeing up space for new patients. Hospitals have reported significant backups, with some patients waiting in ambulances for hours due to the inability to be discharged to powerless homes. Nearly 36 hours after Beryl made landfall, the field hospital is being set up to address the issue.
