Norway's EV Sales Hit Record High with 94.3% Share, Emissions Decline
Aug 8, 2024, 12:19 PM
Norway has achieved a significant milestone in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, with EVs accounting for 94.3% of new car sales, marking a new record high. This surge in EV sales has contributed to a decline in greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in road transport. Since 1990, Norway's greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by 9%, with notable reductions in manufacturing and the phase-out of certain gases. However, the recent drop in fuel consumption, including gasoline and diesel, is primarily attributed to slow economic growth rather than the rise of EVs. Despite the high penetration of electric vehicles, which reached 95% of total car sales, diesel cars still outnumber gasoline cars in Norway.
