NJ Investigates Mysterious Drones; Congressman Alleges Iranian Origin
Dec 11, 2024, 05:03 PM
New Jersey officials are investigating reports of mysterious drones flying over the state, prompting concerns about homeland security and critical infrastructure. State Senator Jon Bramnick has called for a 'limited state of emergency' to ban all drones until the source of the sightings is identified. The drones reportedly came 'in off the ocean,' with a police officer spotting 50 objects, and some trailing U.S. Coast Guard vessels. Senator Doug Steinhardt noted that the drones are 'evasive and elusive' when contact is attempted. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has acknowledged the drone sightings but states they have no information about their origin. Congressman Jeff Van Drew alleges that the drones could be launched from an 'Iranian mothership' off the U.S. east coast, citing credible sources, and has called for them to be 'shot down.' Homeland security officials and members of Congress, including Rep. Mark Green, are urging immediate federal action, with Green introducing the Counter-UAS Authority Security, Safety, and Reauthorization Act to address the potential threat posed by unauthorized unmanned aircraft. Assemblyman Brian Bergen expressed frustration over the lack of answers regarding the drone activity. There are concerns that the drones could be used to carry explosive payloads over mass gatherings.
