Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Nigeria at the beginning of his third term, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 17 years. In Abuja, he held extensive talks with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing on strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria. The discussions covered various sectors, including trade, defence, energy, technology, health, and education. The two leaders witnessed the exchange of Memorandums of Understanding and agreements to enhance cooperation in these areas. PM Modi emphasized, "We give high priority to our strategic partnership with Nigeria." He also highlighted Nigeria's significant role in Africa and their joint commitment to advocating for the Global South. Notably, Nigeria participated in the G20 Summit for the first time under India's chairmanship. PM Modi addressed the Indian diaspora in Nigeria, which numbers over 60,000, expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for taking care of them. He is also scheduled to receive the 'Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger' Award.
