NHTSA Probes 2.4 Million Tesla Vehicles Over FSD Crashes in Low Visibility
Oct 18, 2024, 11:55 AM
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a preliminary evaluation into approximately 2.4 million Tesla vehicles equipped with Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, including the Model S, Model X, Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck. The investigation follows reports of four crashes, including one fatal incident where a pedestrian was killed, involving Tesla vehicles with FSD engaged under conditions of reduced roadway visibility such as sun glare, fog, or airborne dust. The NHTSA aims to assess how FSD detects and responds to these reduced visibility conditions.
